We’re betting: a lot. Let’s talk about it.

On the last Friday of every month, we host a special Zoom call—just for paid subscribers—featuring a rotating group of Iowa Writers’ Collaborative members. It starts at noon Central Time, and yes, a good time is usually had by all.

To get invited, all you need is a paid subscription to any one of our writers. This is our collective way of saying thank youto those who support local, independent commentary in an age when it’s needed most.

Our Business Model (Spoiler: It’s not ads.)

Here’s what we’re not: ad-funded.
That means we’re not chasing clicks with celebrity gossip or rage-bait headlines to please advertisers. It also means we’re not beholden to local zoning or retail sponsors.

So who does foot the bill?

You do—if you choose to. This is media democracy at work. Most of our content remains free because we want everyone to read it. But if about 10% of our readers become paid subscribers, the experiment is sustainable.

If not, well... those of us who aren’t retired or independently wealthy will need to find another way to make a living.

So, if you like a writer—pay a writer. It’s that simple.
