The editor did not include two terrific columns from our Quad Cities columnists, Ed Tibbetts and Alison McGaughey, and a fun one from author Darcy Maulsby.
Ed writes about a new book by a man who grew up in Davenport about the housing affordability crisis. The author, Brendan O’Brien, will hold a book signing on Monday, Oct. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the downtown Rock Island Public Library.
Who knew about Sister Moon Unit, a tarot card reader who has collected spoons throughout her life? Learn about Alison McGaughey’s visit to this extraordinary place in the Quad Cities.
Darcy Maulsby shared her experience joining a river clean-up trip through Project AWARE. It sounds like a fun, purposeful mission. Darcy is a speaker, farmer, foodie, entrepreneur, and author.
Last but hardly least, Iowa Boy Chuck Offenburger, reports about how Plymouth Church focuses on programming to instill an ‘agrarian spirit,’ or ‘creation care.’
Paid subscriber? Two invitations:
Please save the date: Paid subscribers to any of our columnists are invited to join the Iowa Writers’ Collaborative members on Thursday, October 5, via Zoom from noon to 1 p.m. for an informal chat and sharing of ideas. It’s fun, informative, and a way for you to ‘meet’ our writers.
If you are a paid subscriber, you will be invited to attend a holiday party at the former governor’s mansion, now called the Witmer House, 2900 Grand Ave., Des Moines. Put a circle on your calendar for December 7, 6-8 p.m. Soon, we will be taking RSVPs. This will be a limited event, so respond as soon as possible.
The house will be decked out in holiday fashion, and members of the Iowa Writers’ Collaborative will be on hand to greet and thank you for your support (paid subscribers may bring a guest for $20).
