Today, we are announcing a new Iowa Writers’ Collaborative edition, The Flipside, to be published midweek. We also offer a discounted subscription price for those who want to support the effort.
The Flipside will include columns on food, dining, travel, features, religion, books, art, music, and a new section, “Strictly Personal.”
Life is multifaceted, as are our Iowa Writers’ Collaborative members and readers, and we want to offer a holistic perspective to our readers.
In this new edition, we plan to give you ideas for planning upcoming weekend activities and cover leisure activities.
Religion, or faith, has been a central part of community life for generations. As rural populations slide, newspapers, retail stores, schools, and churches are casualties of changing times. So are controversial issues. As pivotal as a church might be for every town in Iowa, the business of religion is an under-reported story. We hope to give voice to these challenges and opportunities.
A career musician faces tough challenges as digital downloads have replaced the need to purchase CDs. As a result, songwriters are grossly underpaid for their streaming work. We want to connect you with as many talented Iowa artists as possible and, in so doing, grow their fan base and develop readers who will support these artists through paid subscriptions.
The topic segments within both the Sunday Roundup and Flipside editions will expand and contract based on the content produced by our members.
This project is a mission-driven experiment that seems to be working. We are attracting new subscribers every day, and the rule of thumb continues to be that 10% of our readers will become paid subscribers.
Be a part of the change.
At some point, there will be a need to hire an editor to compile and edit the Iowa Writers’ Collaborative. Subscription revenues must grow to meet this need, so please know that if you can become a paid subscriber, you will help ensure the Iowa Writers’ Collaborative’s future.
If you cannot become a paid subscriber, there are other equally important ways you can be of support.
Please share this with your friends.
Invite one of our musicians to hold a concert in your home or town.
If you are associated with a business or organization with a budget, consider inviting one of our members to speak.
Those are just some ideas. Please let me know if you have suggestions for topics or ways to grow readership.
