Hi Julie - to make sure I understand correctly. If we’re already paid Collaborative members, do we have to be a paid subscriber to another writer to qualify for this opportunity?

Thanks, Julie. I found Dan Hunter’s noon program very informative and intriguing! Also, I find it interesting that you mentioned you’re on the low end of the spectrum when it comes to details, but it sure seems as though you’re balancing a million balls in the air and doing a fantastic job at all the details! I’m sending you my information, call me anytime if you want to discuss a Burlington, Iowa visit for your Iowa on the Road tour. I’ve got lots of ideas and the perfect setting to host it. Cell: 515-210-9211. Home address 1119 N 4th Street. We’re out of town the weekend of October 21-24 for a family wedding. Otherwise the next few weeks are wide open.

I'm in. Can you identify 20 influencers in town? Not just friends, but folks who considered leaders? Tell me what dates work for you.

Good morning, Julie. How about Sunday, October 9? We can do Monday or Tuesday, the 10 and 11th also.

Sunday afternoon about 4:00 - we have a patio that faces the river, temps should still be around 65, very comfortable. Large living room space, dining room and sun room, all connected by French doors - so easy flow.

Here’s my list so far:

Jeff Abell - owner/publisher of the Burlington Beacon

A representative from the Hawk Eye newspaper - checking on who is still in town

Dr. Michael Ash - President of Southeastern Community College

Martha Wolf - retired business owner and person forming Iowa League of Women Voters

Jon Billup - Burlington mayor

Becky Anderson - business owner, downtown supporter and investor

Dr. Mike McCoy - CEO of Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center

Tammy McCoy - Director of the Capitol Performing Arts Center

New Burlington library director - Brittany Jacobs

Head of Greater Burlington Partnership Della Schmidt

*Michael Dear - Exec Director of Convention and Visitors Bureau

*Jared Kaulukikui - Owner and chef at the Hawaiiowan Cafe (blend of Hawaii and Iowan)

*Den Powell - active in DM County Historical Society, Preservation Station

Pat Coen - recently retired Supt of Schools (young retiree), US Army veteran (and my next door neighbor)

*Former Mayor Shane McCampbell (first black mayor in Burlington history)

Current teachers, health care workers and emergency responders - one of each.

Sheriff Kevin Glendening

Jennifer Glendening - Owner of the Barn on the Ridge, wedding venue, and Chamber Director

Stephanie Kozlowski - Family law attorney and Chamber Director

Others I have in mind, would appreciate your input.

Union leader, laid off union worker (our Case IH plant is on strike) https://iowastartingline.com/2022/07/27/burlington-case-workers-still-on-strike-after-nearly-3-months/

I put an asterisk next to the non-whites- naturally we’d like to have more diversity represented. I know that Burlington is more diverse than this, but I haven’t been directly involved with many people in town since I spent my 10 years here working in Fort Madison for Siemens Energy’s wind turbine manufacturing plant.

I’ll be working on expanding this list if needed. I think statistically that invitations accepted are usually about 60% of invitations extended.

Going for my morning walk, will mull over invitation wording. Let me know your thoughts. If you want to take this conversation off Substack, please email me at starboardscribe@gmail.com.

Julie, are you aware of anyone doing anything like this in Minnesota? I grew up in Iowa and now live in MN.
